Elly Bay is located on the Mullett Peninsula, approximately 9km from Belmullet town in the North-
West of County Mayo. This area is renowned for its many uncrowded golden beaches and crystal clear waters. The bay is also of international ecological importance because of the diverse habitat types found in the area. It is a clean sheltered beach, ideal from bathing, swimming, surfing and other water sports.
The marine life found at the place includes breeding waders and wintering wildfowl which reside at the natural habitats found in the region. It is accompanied by dune systems that stretch over the western coast of the Mullet Peninsula behind which lie large areas of machair and dune grassland. These natural geographical landforms add to the charm of the place and have made the beach one of tourists’ favourites.
