About Us
Claggan island is a very special place for the Howard family. Laurence & Myra are the fourth generation Howards to live & farm here. We are also the second generation providing self catering accommodation. Laurence’s parents have been in the business with the very popular Oyster Bay House since the mid 90’s and have almost 20 years experience catering for guests from all around the world.
We are extremely proud of our little island and hope you enjoy the peace and tranquility our home offers. Erris has been voted the best place to “Go Wild” in Ireland in 2014 and boasts some of the most spectacular scenery along the Wild Atlantic Way. Claggan Island is a discovery point along the route and has miles of sandy beaches, cliff top walks, rock & shore fishing, bird watching, surfing….the list goes on & on!!
Belmullet Coastguard Station is set in the heart of our farm. We run a spring calving suckler herd and
from February on you will see young calves in the fields around the station. From April on Charlie the bull can be seen in the fields, he is our biggest animal by far, weighing close to a ton, he is hard to miss!!
You can meet our 3 donkeys, Jack, Jill & Riley, they are quiet & friendly and love treats such as fruit & veg- an odd biscuit never hurt either!! Your day will start with a call from Rocky the rooster. He along with hens, ducks & some turkeys will never be too far from view and spend their days around the station. They will also provide you with some fresh eggs during your stay! We are happy to spend time with our guests introducing them to the animals and explaining how our farm works.
We hope you enjoy your stay on Claggan Island and take full advantage of the peace and quiet it offers. You will leave relaxed, refreshed & longing to return again!
